Please help if you are good with Mac Pro

Hi,

I recently bought a new macbook pro 15" retina display.

I purchased a USB to ethernet adapter however I cannot seem to get any internet connection through it.

It says the ethernet port is active however it does not seem to be picking up an internet connection. I have only just converted to OSX from windows so I am not very knowledgeable with networking and macs. Is it possible that I have to configure my router?

note: the wireless signal from the same router works and connects to the internet..

Look in your Dock for System Preferences (it's like Windblows Control Panel)->Network. Plus don't be afraid to use the 'Advanced' button in the Network pane.
