please help -Iphone 3gs unlock and update to ios 5.0

Hey guys I have an iphone 3gs from Rogers.

firmware is 4.1
base-band is 5.14.02

I want to know how I can unlock this to use with any carrier and I also want to update it to 5.0 or later

How would I do this and what would I do first.

can this be done without JAILBREAKING?

No, you cannot unlock it without having your iphone JB.
And in order to unlock it you will have to install the ipad bb and that comes with many other headaches.
Read up on it before you decide to do it.
