So I installed retrospect backup software on my Powerbook but decided to delete it because I didn't like that it was preventing my computer from shutting down; but now, even with the program gone, the computer still wont shut down! Please help!

I don't know if this is related but when I installed Retrospect it was when I got my external FW HD. I found my iMac would have problems shutting down if it had any FW devices connected, I don't think it was Retrospect giving me the problem 'cause once I unplugged the problem was cured.

There's an updated retrospect firewire driver on dantz.com. Just download that, install, and you will be able to shutdown. :)

If you can't find it let me know.

:D I love this forum! Thank you so much for your replies. mpw - It still won't shut down even after the drive is disconnected. ITASOR I'll try that!
