Java seems to be blocked, I can't seem to unblock it and it's driving me INSANE

Any website I go on that requires Java, a little yellow box appears on the right side of the searchbar (I'm on Chrome) that says "Plug-In blocked".

On the website I'm trying to view there's a grey box with a jigsaw piece that says "Java needs your permission to run" - I click it and choose "Run this plug-in" and a box pops up that says "Application Blocked by Java Security. For security, applications must now meet the requirements for the High or Very High security settings, or be part of the Exception Site List, to be allowed to run. Reason: Your security settings have blocked an application from running due to missing a 'Permissions' manifest attribute in the main jar"

I've tried adding this particular website to the exceptions list on Java settings, but it just makes the website 'hang' for hours, it will not load at all.

What can I do to resolve this?

Java is fully up to date.

Thanks :)
