I am looking at various 7+ iPhones. I need one that works on the Verizon network. I see some that say fully unlocked on Amazon and read reviews that it doesn't work with Verizon. I researched and see the Verizon model is A1661. So will any A1661 be able to work with Verizon? Does it have to be an unlocked A1661. Also...will my Verizon nano sim from an android be able to be put into an iphone and work?
Any help would be appreciated as this is all confusing.

Re 7 Plus...
A1661 has hardware for both CDMA and GSM cellular.
A1784 has hardware for only GSM.

GSM used by AT&T, T mobile (and many others, very common outside USA also).
CDMA used by Verizon, Sprint (and few others, only used in USA).

Lock/unlock is a separate issue from the hardware differences between the 2 models above. Locks, or unlocked, is software/firmware based.

Factory unlocked (“Sim Free”) phones sold by Apple were all A1661, so they would have hardware to work on all carriers. (A1784 was never sold factory unlocked in USA). AT&T or T-Mobile, or some unlocking service, can unlock an A1784 phone, which could then legitimately be sold 3rd party as a “fully unlocked” phone. But it could never work on CDMA carrier like Verizon.

A1661 has the hardware necessary to work on any USA carrier. Safest/most flexible is to look for fully unlocked A1661. But a phone set up for Verizon should be fine for you too. If you get a A1661 locked to Sprint for example, you will spend some time getting them to unlock it

All I need is a phone that makes calls/texts and has a web browser. Dont care about all the techy stuff. 100 bucks is a 100 bucks. Truthfully I have a galaxy S7 right now that is 100% fine nothing wrong nor do I need anything more. I may not even go apple yet.

Thank you very much. I appreciate it.

Yes, you can use the same sim card that's in your S7. All you have to do is insert it in an iPhone 7+, and restart it, or power it off and on again. That's what I do when I switch from my iPhone to Samsung phone.

i have an iPhone 7 Plus 128gb unlocked A1661 as a back up device. got it from the Apple store as a new replacement 2 months ago. It’s still on ios 12.4.1. I rarely use it. Great phone with 3D Touch in full effect.

Thank you very much. I appreciate it.

Future reference...iPhone 8/8+/X (2017) continued the 2 hardware/ 2 model thing for USA exactly as I explained for 7+ (but with different model numbers).

Beginning with XS/Xr in 2018, just one hardware version (for USA and Europe anyway)...continued with 2019 iPhone 11. Hope it continues til CDMA is dead.

But the cell carrier specific BS, (lock/unlock) is still alive and well, perhaps even more so, in USA (rest of world could care less about Verizon/Sprint CDMA).

If that’s the case grab an iPhone 6s at Walmart for $99 (Black Friday sale) but it’s only for Straight Talk or Total Wireless. With the 6s you’ll find good deals elsewhere as well.

I am actually considering the 6s Plus. Honestly I think that would be all I would need I just like the bigger size screen so it would have to be the Plus. Looks like I can get a nice one of those for around two hundred bucks. The 7 plus is a hundred dollars more but still in my budget so I'm kind of on the fence. I probably will buy one off the swappa app I just downloaded that and really like that site. Actually after looking at swappa the 8 plus is on my radar because it isn't that much more money on there. You can pick up a mint condition 8 plus for under $400.

If the 8+ is in your range, do it, it's a no-brainer. Way better than the 6/7 series and will be supported longer.

If all the OP needs is calling/texting capabilities and basic web browsing, why would (s)he need an 8+? Yes, the 8+ will receive more updates but the 6s has much more power, even with iOS 13, than what the OP needs and wants. If cost is the main goal, the 6s+ is a good fit if new is preferred over used.

OP, the 6s+ isn’t much more at Walmart vs the 6s. I think a $50 difference. Other prepaid carriers are offering good deals on the devices as well. But if you somehow run into a great deal around the same price, obviously the 8+ would be the better choice. But I don’t see how likely that would be.

Did you not see this post from OP?

Had a seller on ebay tell me the new/mint condition 7+ Verizon model was getting hard to find. Seems to be the case as hardly any on swappa. The good ones disappear instantly on there.

Swappa and eBay are two different venues. Swappa is far more tech orientated with ‘techies’ who sell/buy consistently with more of a consistent track record with selling tech products in fairly good condition or above.

eBay is far more generalized and less prone to finding ‘mint’ devices for older devices. But it depends on the seller and their history.

If you only want a 7+ then Apple is still selling it through its clearance product section:

https://www.apple.com/shop/refurbished/clearance/iphone

Personally though I’d rather get an 8+ for just $50 more ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Not a chance I'd pay 550 for a 7+...lol.
What I am looking for just hit swappa. 6s plus mint 97% battery health but 325 for a used 6s?? Who would pay that? I think I will just settle for a bit less memory. I missed a 7+ mint condition 32gb for 245 because I didnt immediately pull the trigger. I guess I dont need 128 GB really. I am o Lynn using 22 GB on my s7 right now.
