I'm in tears right now.

I purchased a new MBP and upon inserting my HDD to it, it seems to have to "killed" my HDD and all the data on it is no longer accessible.

Please can anyone suggest what to do?

Any kind of software to get the data back?

Any methods to suggest?

I also have an old Windows PC that I can if certain software is only on that...

Please help!!

You must describe your situation much better.

Inserting your HDD?

Killed?

Data not accessible?

It's an external HDD.

It is no longer recognised when plugged in.

Also seems to have broken it, now nothing recognises the drive, not my PC, not my PS3, nothing!!

Can't get it to show up on device manager or anything!!

You didn't back up?

You knows HDD's fail, right?

It's not a question of "if it fails", it's a question of "when will it fail".

It may not be the actual hard drive - but the external case may have gone faulty.

What type of drive and case is it?

eyup's probably right, it's the enclosure. Rip the drive out and try connecting it normally. hope you learned your lesson if it is just the enclosure. BACK UP! BACK UP! and BACK UP again!

Even if the system does not recognise it it is possible that a utility like data rescue pro will be able to see the drive and salvage your data… give it a try if its not the enclosure.
