For my Uni course, i need to edit video and audio, the audio being caght via recording devices ourselves, the video being a avi file i have

I got my first mac last week (macbook 2.2 with leopard) and am loving it, but don't know what software i should use

i need a program for the audio editing, and one so i can capture the video (and maybe even convert it)
and i need a program to mix them all together to actually create my video/audio piece

Any suggestions?

You're going to have to be way more specific. There are tons of audio and video "capture" devices. There are also tons of levels of software ranging from iMovie and Garageband all the way through the FinalCut Suite.

so i will be capturing audio, and will need a good programe to edit the software (pitch change, add effects, something like adobe audition (which is what the windows users are using))
video software is just to trim a downloaded video file to get it to the certain part i want

and the end software would be to add all the pieces together
and so i could see all the pieces of audio on a time line

What are you capturing audio and video with?

Sigh, I'll just give you the options from Apple:

iLife
Logic Express
Logic Studio
Final Cut Express
FinalCut Studio

You might be able to get away with just using iLife but probably not.
