Please help me convert sony mini dvd's.

My camera doesn't connect to a computer, period. No USB, no firewire,etc.
(I am not using that camera anymore and switched back to my mini DV.)

Anyway, so far from my research it sound like I need to buy an external dvd tray drive to place the mini dvd in so my macbook can even take it.

Then do I use handbrake to rip the contents?

Finally, I use mpegstream to convert to something imovie can recognize?

Does this sound right???? Any help at all would be appreciated...

hi newat,

does your dvd camcorder still work? if so, you might be best to connect it directly to a vcr by the rca cables and see if you can borrow a digital converter (like a canopus 110) to send the signal from the vcr to the dig. conv. then from there FW to your macbook.

the reason why i suggest this is because your camcorder dvds are in mpeg2 format as you know and that is a compressed format. while handbrake or something may do the job (i have no idea), but i do know the quality won't be as good as the original uncompressed footage.
