Please help me decide what new 13" laptop config to buy!
I multitask, edit videos and do some light photoshopping. For my heavier needs I have an expensive new 27" iMac at home. And so now I'm looking for a 13" laptop for my more portable needs (will be part-time studying). I'm not comfortable spending more than a certain sum for a computer that I will be lugging around. And so I'm either looking at a new 13" MBP with 256GB SSD 8GB RAM or a MBAir with 256GB SSD and 16GB RAM. The single core performance is close to the same. But the multicore performance of the MBP is twice the Air. However for the same money I could afford the Air with 16GB RAM.
ALSO, I'm not looking to export my videos or do more advanced color work on my laptop, for that I will bring the project into my home iMac (the project will be on an external SSD). But I do want to be able to edit 20-30 minute timelines on my laptop (FCPX), say two days a week, and have a decent timeline experience. Working with 4K originals but as proxy (so 2K in playback) but with some graphics and LUTs.
Which configuration would you recommend for me and why?
