Hi, I just bought my first MBP last week. I have decided on buying a OWC external hard drive which is portable. Here are the two:

OWC Mercury Elite-AL Pro mini
500GB with a Seagate HD Momentus 7200.4

or

OWC Mercury Elite-AL Pro mini
750GB with a WD Scorpio® Black 7200rpm

The size isn't the deal breaker. I am more interested in reliability and performance.

Thanks a lot!

The warranty is the same. Is there much of a difference between 5400rpm 8mb cache vs a 7200rpm 16mb cache? I want to keep my videos on the external drive

As least for me, I noticed a performance hit between 5400 RPM and 7200 RPM - though both the drives you listed are 7200 I believe. Given they've got the same warranty, and pretty much the same specs, I'd go with the larger drive.

I also just like Western Digital drives. Had mostly pleasant experiences with them.
