I am going nuts. For the first time in my life I am using a mac (macbook pro, 10.4.10). The challenges of the transition from the PC are stressing enough, but although I have overcome all the problems, I absolutely am impotent in finding a regular media player for mac that will play APE (monkey's audio) music files. I just spent nearly 5 hours searching online, and despite going through a myriad of players, could not find anything. The macamp lite does NOT play APEs, as reported. It doesn't let you add ape files to the playlist. The only thing i have, after someone's suggestion, is Tool Player, which is basically garbage. It plays APEs fine, but it has NO PLAYLIST EDITOR! I hate it!

Can anyone, PLEASE help me find something that can play APEs? Tool Player is useless. Please do not suggest that I convert my library. I have 8126 files (total of over 200GB) of APEs and I cannot convert them to AAC. Plus I have another computer that is a windows and it uses the APEs. I want to put my files on a USB, transfer to macbook, and be able to play them right away without worrying to convert. And yes, I do have parallels, but I will not run windows on my mac just to play my music files. It is ridiculous! I am out of options. Can anyone please help me?

Just a quick search, have you tried Cog http://cogx.org/?

You can't imagine how helpful this information was. I had already given up. Thank you so much. Could you please tell me what keywords did you use in your search? If you were able to find this so easily, then there should be many others. I'd like to have one that has a miniature mode (like winamp) that can be kept open while playing without taking much space on the monitor.

Personally I just convert all my APE music to Apple Lossless using Max and use iTunes. It is much easier in the end and does not lose any audio quality at all.

I googled "Play APE files in iTunes", and it was the 4th link that came up. It was a link to another forum, and someone said to use Cog. I don't know how many other options there are though....
