Please help me with my macbook mail

hi im very new to this and mac. i just bought my macbook a few days ago and the mail application has been working fine until about 2 days ago i started getting this error message. when i click the mail icon it will open and stay open it will close as soon as i click one of my mails in my mailbox and then this error message will popup " The application mail quit unexpectedly. Mac OS X and other applications are not effected. Click relaunch to launch the application again . Click report to see more details or send a report to apple." ive tried everything. i also did an update a few days earlier. please help. thx

What is "tried everything?" Have you repaired permissions? Undertook Gregorian chant? More information is helpful.

Do a permission repair in Disk Utility, reset your PRAM--usual diagnostic procedures; if that doesn't work, do a hardware test to see if RAM and stuff has issues.
