When I purchased my iPhone 4, I backed up my 3GS so that I could restore the new phone w/all my Contacts, Notes, etc.

After I backed up my 3GS, I wiped/restored it because I was giving it to someone else (so there went all my data!) ... When I plugged in my new phone and chose Restore From Backup, lo and behold my 3GS backup which I had just done does not appear on the list of devices! In fact, NONE of the 3GS backups I ever did show up ...

I went into the .../MobileSync/Backup (I'm on Windows) and I can see all the backup folders, including the 3GS backup I need. HOWEVER, out of all the backups listed, the only one that has an extra "Snapshot" subfolder is the 3GS backup. When I click on the 3GS backup folder, there are no files inside but instead there's the Snapshot subfolder and a Status.plist file. When I click on the Snapshot subfolder, I can then see all the backup files but they don't have file extensions (?!) No mddata or mdbackup file extensions, just no file extensions at all! #1 Why doesn't iTunes "see" the backup? and #2 Why don't any of the backup files have extensions?

The only info I DESPERATELY need to extract are my Contacts and my Notes ... I've got all my music and pictures, but unforturnately I never (ever) synced my Contacts with ANY address book :( (I know, I know ... I should have!)

Can anyone PLEASE help me extract this info from these files? Does this sound familiar to anyone? I cannot believe that Apple Support basically just said "Oh yeah, these things happen" (?????):mad: and I can't be the ONLY person this has ever happened to ...

THANKS :) ~ MARCIA
