Hello,

I've posted here before about this but can't find the thread! I desperately need to buy an external monitor, just to have a broader canvas to look at different documents open as I work. My laptop is 2015, macbook Pro, intel core i5, 2.7ghz, High Sierra 10.13.16

I can't just plug and play, so i'm unsure what monitors will be appropriate/work - need to buy one today.

I'd be so grateful for your advice, thanks.

I believe this is the thread you could not find:

Anyhow, are you still looking for a portable monitor. Some specifics would help, like how big, resolution, price range, etc. Do you want to extend your laptop screen. Do you want the extended monitor the same size as your laptop? Are you using a 13 or 15 inch MBP?

Ah, thank you! My laptop is 13inch. I don't want a massive or expensive monitor. I mostly work off text documents. I want to extend the laptop screen, yes.

Sorry, I'm not very good at explaining this stuff!

I set up a previous version of this monitor for a friend and it worked fine with the displaylink software on my 2012 MBP. Do you still have that AOC monitor? If so, lets see if we can get it working. Did you download the correct version of the OS X displaylink software? This is the download site:
and you have to go to the legacy area to download the version for your version of os x. You could also upgrade your computer to Mojave and then get the latest Displaylink drivers for that. I run mojave on my 2012 MBP and find it very stable.

I don't have that monitor anymore. So, I need to start afresh. Also, I'm in the middle of such a big project, I don't want to risk and upgrade to Mojave.

Well, unfortunately I only recommend stuff I have used with my MBP, so I would have suggest that monitor you tried before. It should have worked.
