Hi there,

So I went ahead and installed Mavericks today and also upgraded to iMovie 10.0.

When I first opened the new iMovie it prompted me to upgrade my iMovie library which it started to do...but then after 2 hours iMovie froze and I had to force quit.

Upon opening again though it didn't prompt me to upgrade my library and instead I have an empty library.

I have tried to delete the new version and reinstall but this has not worked.

I also deleted plist files to no avail.

The events and projects are in my movies folder in finder but how to get the new iMovie to act as if it is the first time I am opening it again so that it will import my library and events?

Any help would be much appreciated!!!

Thanks!

Just a note that when mine was updating my old library iMovie did appear to freeze, but instead of force quitting it I just left it alone and went to bed. The next morning the update had completed successfully. So when it is updating your iMovie library, just leave it alone for a few hours. It may not actually be frozen.

(sorry I know this may be too little too late, but thought it was a relevant point.)

Ok so it looks like this support file is for you:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6012

1. Open iMovie.
2. From the menu bar, choose File > Update Projects and Events.
3. Press the Update button in the dialog that appears.

Thanks for the reply.

Since I had to force quit I can't get it to find or search for the events and projects.

When I click on update iMovie events and projects nothing happens.

Any idea on how to get it to opening iMovie as if it is the first time again?

How did you solve it???

In the iMovie events folder within finder look for a text document called UpgradedtoiMovie10

I moved that document to the trash and then reopened the new iMovie and it prompted me to search and upgrade my existing events and library as it did the first time.

iMovie 10 must create the document after it has done the upgrade of events and look for it to confirm if completed.

All is good now.

Thanks for that post, fixed the problem for me :)
