First off my thanks in advance for your help!

I have a 2010 MBP and iMovie '09

I am looking to import VHS and Hi-8 video using a Canopus a/d converter.

My understanding is that iMovie "06 is a better program with regard to image quality than iMovie '09.

I know I could buy Final Cut Express but I am worried that I won't have time to learn it.

For the moment I just want the cleanest imports that I can get. If I can do that with '06 I will simply buy it. Is it better?

Any comments/insights greatly welcomed

iMovie '06 is certainly more advanced than '09, and with regards to image quality, I thought they were the same, however I have only used '06 and below for more than iSight videos.

Image quality should theoretically be the same considering use of the same codecs honestly I don't think it would make a difference because you are already bringing in VHS footage. It really can't get much worse in quality than that.

Oh yes it can *points at the pile of 320*240 mobile 15fps videos in 3gp on desktop*
