Please help noob

I have a 3gs with 4.0.1 jailbroken and I can't upgrade to iOS 5.
Any time I try to upgrade or restore to factory it tells me I am not eligible.
How do I get it back to factory so I can upgrade it? THX

do you have 6.15 ipad baseband installed? settings/general/about. is it unlocked? if so how.

I don't remember how (i think redsnow) it was a long time ago.
What is the baseband called?
I have in the area you mentioned:
firmware 5.13.04
version 4.0.1 (8A306)
carrier AT&T 7.0

I guess i should clarify that it is unlocked (to use cydia) not jailbroken to change carriers.

It should be the otherway. Your iphone is jailbroken and not unlocked.

fixed it

Had to alter last line of "hosts" file in OSX.
Go figure.
