I have an IMac but have no idea on many things as I am not very computer literate.

I am trying to get my printer going. It was working fine until the internet company came by and installed a new modem. Now the printer doesn't work of this computer. It does however continue to work for another computer (wired directly to the modem and from my pc laptop wirelessly).
The Imac is connected directly to the modem.

Thanks to everyone who can help me.

Is the modem also a router?
How does the printer connect to the modem? USB or an ethernet cable?
Does the printer show up in the Print Preference Pane in System Preferences?
This may or may not help but try this.
Turn all the computers and the printer off.
Unplug the modem from power. Wait a minute and plug it back in. Wait for it to completely restart.
Turn on the printer. Wait for it to go through its power up cycle.
Turn on the iMac and log in. Go to System Preferences>Print and Fax and see if the printer is listed.

What's your printer?

As Knoodles mentions, go to sys prefs, printers & fax (or & scan in Lion) and click on your printer if it's there. Find the printer utility.

If you can check the ink supply levels, your printer is connected.
If not, remove it (-) and reinstall with the CD that came with the device.
Be sure to select 'wireless' when choosing your connection method.

Good luck, home/small office type printer compatibility with OSX sucks.
