please Help

Hey i have a problem with my mac, Whenever i shut the lid and put it to sleep every 10-15 seconds i hear a noise, when i listen harder it seems to be coming from where you would insert a disk, it sounds like it wants to eject a disk so it starts and then realises there isnt one there so it stops and the sound is only 2 seconds long, and it happens every 10-15 seconds when asleep, when i open the lid and wake it up it does it a final time and stops untill it goes back to sleep,

What could this be?

What exact MacBook (year and model/size) running what exact Mac OS X version do you have?

Has it started appearing recently? How long do you have that thing?
