if i close the lid on m1 macbook air it is dim when i reopen it. i looked in battery and display settings saw no option to fix it

Does it un-dim if you press a key or touch the trackpad?

nah i have to first lower the brigtness then make it briter with the f1 and f2 keys .

Nothing much to do except report the bug to Apple.

It may be a stretch, but you can check if the ambient light sensor (next to the front camera) is dirty or smudged.

Otherwise a temp solution is to disable auto screen brightness to see if it still behaves the same.
