I have an late 2013 13" MBPr and I want to import my music cds and to watch blu-ray movies on my MBPr. Please recommend me an external blu-ray drive thats quiet and reliable.

I use the Samsung one fhall1 posted. Its worked for everything ive ever thrown at it both new and old. Keep in mind you still need software to play blue rays. I use macgo blue ray player. They update it constantly for new encryption. I liked it so much I bought it for both my computers.

Check out the Buffalo BDXL external/portable burner. USB cords tuck into the chassis, light weight, quiet. Recently voted the best portable Blu-ray burner. It may be overkill if you don't intend to burn Blu-rays though. (but still a really nice drive....)

One super handy feature is that it has a red and blue light on the top that indicate if the single USB connection is supplying enough power. If it's red, you plug in the second included USB cable for more power. If it's blue, you're good to go. Totally takes the guess work out of whether or not you have enough juice coming from the USB port.

I just bought one and so far it's been great. Cheers!

Any of these, or others, only need 1 usb connection. I want just a player, the one I have now takes up 2 usb ports, do they all require 2?

The Samsung I linked to above only requires one USB connection

Thanks. If I can find a decent player cheaper than a writer, I'd like to save some money since I'll almost certainly never burn a bluray. But if not, then I'll keep this one in mind.

Oh, I was going to ask the same question, I will check the reviews of each one in order to buy the best for me!! :)

I have one of the slim line units and have only used it to watch blurays. Works well.

A few days ago I decide it to buy a 16X OWC Mercury Pro Blu-ray Burner+SuperMultiDrive USB3.0+FW800/400 +Toast 11 Titanium HD still waiting for it... @ http://eshop.macsales.com/search/external+blu+ray
