Please recommend ext monitor for 2011 mbp

A 27” IPS Viewsonic if you want high quality, accurate color. The 2560x1440 model is about $489. There are cheaper options but Viewsonic’s product is always great.
 
I second lec's recommendation for Viewsonic.
I've had a 27" 1080p model for the last 4 years, works great.
