Please Recommend HD camcorder

I'm looking for a new HD camcorder, and would ideally like it to play nice with imovie. My current panasonic does not seem to want to, and the programs I have been using to get the footage transferred and converted seem to be messing up the quality of the picture. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

What sort of budget do you have in mind? Also what kind of things will you be doing with it? is it just for home movies etc?
