Hi folks,

I am running a late 15" 2016 MB Pro and am in need for a reliable USB-C hub with HDMI and at least one USB3 port. With reliable I mean that it works every time i plug it in, i.e. without having to reboot etc. The one I am using right now is highly unreliable: Every day i go into the office to plug in the external monitor, I have to reboot several times, plug (and pray), and unplug the dongle in order to getting it work. I am a university teacher, and you can imagine the hassle I encounter each time I try to connect this computer to the beamer. Do I have to go for the original Apple product or is there a better alternative? Any help is highly appreciated, because no matter which product I read reviews about (Satechi, Aukey, etc), there's always the one person to complain that something does not work (e.g. Wifi signal lost). Thanks!

Im doing research on dongles (who would have thought) too as Im contemplating a new MBP 2017.

Its confusing...apparently there are docks from belkin, owc etc....these are rather big and meant to stay on a desk.

Then there are the ones that you toss into your bag....smaller lighter ones I guess....Ive seen the ones that attach
to the side of the mbp like limpet and by god, they tun the mbp into an ugly device...jobs would have whipped anyone who was responsible for this. The ones that attach with a small extension cord are the most bearable.

I like the ones made by hyperdrive and even minix neo c.

Damn apple for bringing this on us.

The only accessory I really like is a Griffin magnetic head power cord extension that mimics a magsafe adaptor. Genius.

just 30hz at 4k.
Yes. I’ve found 4K is relative useless in my every day life without have to scale the display.
I notice little difference scaling or lowering the resolution on my dell monitors.

Any recommendations?
I am interested in a hub with dp that’s under $150
