My old and trusty Plextor external DVD player is giving up the ghost so I got a new one, a BluRay player this time (PX-B310U to be exact). Under Snow Leopard everything works apart from the BluRay side of things. In other words CDs and DVDs work like a charm.
Now onto the problem... I start an XP Pro virtual machine in Fusion 4. I see the expected "New Hardware Discovered" and installing of drivers and such, and in the end it says that I can use the drive. I put in the CD to install the PlextorUtil tool(s), no reaction from Windows whatsoever. Try an audio CD... No reaction. DVD.... Nope.
Anybody have an idea what is up? My conclusion so far is since it works under OS X the combo Apple and Plextor is no problem. The problem has to lie either with VMware or with Windows, and I am inclined to blame VMware as I can't believe the problem is with Windows. I think Microsoft and Plextor would have solved the problem by now.
