I know this has been asked already (as it seems to be a fairly common problem) but when I searched the forums I couldn't find a recent response to this issue (besides replacing the HDD). It seems that Hitachi drives are notorious for being noisy which seems to derive from the heads constantly being parked.
Anyway, I just received my refurb UMBP a couple days ago and I was wondering if I should be concerned if I hear a constant "whirring sound" (not quite sure how else to describe it). It does this even when it is idle. I deselected the energy saver preference for putting the disk to sleep, I tried declunk and hdapm; didn't stop the whirring.
So basically, is the constant whirring a sign of problems to come and I should buy a different drive, or should I just deal with it?
Thanks
