Pls can someone help me with itunes

i have an iphone 3g 8 gb, and itunes 10.0 somthing.........
when i connect my phone to the pc which is XP-2. it shows a msg tht....
this iphone cannot be used some software is not installed, i have update apple iphone driver in device manager also but no use, have also tried itunes 9.2 and all.
my phone is running on 3.1.3

Difficult to know what's going wrong but, I guess, you should first update iTunes, plug in your phone, check and launch updates. We'll see after that
