I have two BIG (2TB+) photo/5k video libraries I want to access from portable SSDs (Samsung T7, Sandisk Extreme).

If I keep these SSDs plugged into an Apple Studio Display, will a macbook be able to access them fast enough to not encounter lag etc?

Is the bandwidth fast enough in the Studio Display? Or is it better to plug the SSDs directly into the macbook?

Directly plug it in for the best performance. If you are connecting it to the Studio Display, then it has to go through a bridge/dock before it gets to the MacBook, possibly leading to transfer speed degradation.

Do you use it with a laptop or with a desktop? Do you find it a chore to remember to eject the drive before departing with the macbook if you use a laptop?

I use a MBP. I do have to eject them, but isn't really much of a hassle and I don't take the MBP with me every day (more like once every few weeks).
