plz help with whatsapp downloading media automatically

hi everyone
I have some muted groups in whatsapp, and dont want pics sent by other group members to be automatically downloaded by my iphone.
THerefore i went in Group chat setting and having three alternatives (Default; Never, Always) I selected NEVER for "saving received media" option.

In spite of this, pics are still downloaded without me clicking anything. Is there a way to prevent this, and so I will have to click on a pic within this group before downloading it?

Maybe it helps to block auto download in the global settings, have you tried this? Means, not in the settings of the group chat, but the general settings inside whatsapp.
