PNG Icons won't display

Just downloaded and installed Lion, but I've customized some file icons with downloaded png files and now they won't display. Does anyone know the trick to this? I can copy-paste the icon, but all I get is the generic "png" Preview icon. Is Preview the right program to be reading these?

Any help welcome!!
