At the iPhone hacks section.
Pod2g has revealed that a public jailbreak for A5+ iOS 5.1 devices is at minimum weeks away.

"About 5.1 jailbreak for A5+ devices : it's not out and I have no clue when it'll happen. I'm working some hours per week on finding vulns."

"But right now we (cdev) have some pieces of a userland jailbreak, but we miss some, and even if we had them all, there's weeks of work..."

"... to put them all together in a public ready tool."

Although a jailbreak of iOS 5.1 has been demonstrated by several sources, I0n1c is the one who has demonstrated an untether. It appears he is unwilling
to release his exploit to the public.

This pretty much guarantees we won't see the downgrade path for A5's released anytime soon I guess.

The downgrade possibility isn't part of the jailbreaks being worked on currently
However, iH8Sn0w has advised he has been able to restore A5 devices

So they are being developed indepentley and will likely be released at different times

It's good to see progress get this far, especially from the 1.x jailbreak days (heh, I remembering finding it out by googling). I'm still a bit nervous to upgrade from 4.1 since I don't want to lose some tweaks.

I understand that, but he also said that the A5 downgrade path would be released "at the right time". This would be when there are no longer any A5 jailbreaks in development or possible. Given that it may take a while, but we will see an A5 jailbreak for 5.1, it's safe to say that the downgrade path will be preserved and we won't see a release anytime soon.

kind of related question. I'm on an iphone4, 5.0.1 untethered. I'm pretty happy. Though of course, the newest version is always nice to have. My iphone prompted me to update, and I clicked the '**** that' button. But now I have one of those little red (1)'s on the settings icon. I'm OCD and hate that ****. I've tried respringing but no dice. Is there any way to get that to go away?

Download noOTA Badge in Cydia. That will let you get rid of the little red 1 next to settings icon.

I guess when he determines it is the right time, we will see it.

There are also ones that take every badge off. I love that because email app store settings and every other little badge are irritating to see so i just got rid of them all :)
