Is there an add-on which alerts you of new podcasts in the way mail does, ie. with a little red counter on the icon in the dock? is there anyway of getting this?

I think you can apply to have it emailed to you every week or so. I have that with new songs so i bet you could do it with podcasts too, but just a guess!

No I mean like when one I am subscribed to gets an update I have a red dot on the iTunes dock icon until I have listened to the podcast, like until you read mail.

Good idea. I always thought Apple should expand the use of the dock with more notifications and the like. I'd be interested in this too.
