Hardware is an iPhone 6 and a 1st gen Apple Watch. I use the default Podcast app and have ~30 that I follow through it (I have seen other app recommendations but have no desire to switch since some podcasts do not show up in other apps). Recently there were 2 iOS updates for the iPhone that affected how the iWatch worked with the podcast app.

First update (11.1.1 I think) was great. This introduced the ability to Skip 15 forwards and backwards and pause from the watch screen (this became the default view when the podcast app was playing). I like this a lot, makes it easy to use the back of my finger to replay something or skip ads if the phone is in my pocket and unable to reach easily, and to use the scroll as a volume control.

The second update (11.1.2 for sure) has undone this brilliance. Two issues now present themselves. First, the default view (when a podcast is playing) seems to be from the "Now Playing" app which has a red icon with music bars. It is now mostly blank, just a play icon and greyed out fast-forward, rewind, and volume icons. Where did the podcast app go and how can I get it back? If I hit the play button it asks to pair my apple watch with bluetooth headphones (which I had in the past but do not have now).

The second issue is that now the Podcast app does not register as having completed the download of any new podcasts. New podcasts are detected, and then the download circle increases around the circle for the full 360 degrees, but then hangs up and never registers as having completed it (perpetual download icon).

Has anyone else experienced similar issues like this with the new iOS 11.1.2 update? If yes have you found a workaround for it?

I am happy to say that these bugs were fixed on back to back days this past week, the universe is now just slightly less chaotic.
