Here's the deal...I've been very stubbornly sticking with iTunes to manage my music and podcasts and synching with my iPod Classic. I could dedicate an entire blog on why I've been doing this. I installed Retroactive on my Macs, which is how I was able to download and run iTunes onto my Monterey and Ventura-powered Macs, and it has been flawless, until I got my new M2 MBP last week. Retroactive's installations of iTunes don't want to work on my new MBP, so I decided to just bite the bullet and deal with the stand-alone Music and Podcasts apps.

I've very grumblingly learned to deal with having to open up separate apps just to get stuff to my iPod, but one problem that doesn't seem to want to go away: the Podcasts app picks and chooses randomly which newly-release episodes get downloaded despite choosing "All New Episodes" under "Automatically Download":

Just this morning I awoke to see that three podcasts I listen to have released episodes since I went to bed last night. The Podcasts app is kind enough to show me that they exist -- but only one was downloaded. I checked the settings on each individual podcast, and they all show under "Automatically Download" that "Default (All New Episodes)" is selected:

What's going on??

EDIT: oh...and apparently I'm supposed to get notifications when new episodes are downloaded. This is enabled, both in the app and in System Settings. Heh. No notifications! Yaaaaay!

I was having to select the Latest Episodes view and for each podcast that failed use the '...' menu to start the download. I'm afraid there are more bugs in the Podcasts.app than the ones you've found so far. For example, some shows will be renamed as "Podcast" when you sync them to a device (iPods in my case) whereas iTunes can sync the same shows without problem. None of the bugs I found are showstoppers, but they're all aggravating. Finally I gave up and went back to iTunes.

You might find iTunes 12.6.5.3 on Apple Silicon of interest.
