iPhone Point in jailbreak?

Ok so I jailbroke my 3gs so I could send and receive MMS with straight talk. But other than this what can I do now that its jailbroke and how do I do it? Also I ran through the process with redsn0w and as far as I can tell there is nothing different about the phone other than the little cydia app. Which has a blank logo. Did I do something wrong or is this because I dont yet have a sim in the phone. Please help I am a total newb to all this.:eek:

Cydia is your gateway to all the apps and tweaks you can't get on the apple store.

With every new apple IOS that is released I am finding less of a reason to jailbreak anymore.

most recently the only thing I really cared about was sbsettings, now I see that is basically (finally coming to IOS7) so I may just run stock from here on out.

Haha alls you have to do is google "reasons to jailbreak" and you'll get a bazillion search results.

This place is getting stranger by the day ever since iOS6 was jailbroken. I'm afraid what it'll be like when iOS7 is jailbroken...

Regardless I'll still be posting here because this is the first and only forum I've ever been an active member. There are still some solid threads amidst all the bad ones.

In order to SMS and MMS on "Straight Talk" you must enter the correct settings in General/Cellular/Cellular Data Network.

Since you are now jailbroken, you need to purchase TetherMe to gain access to this panel to be able to enter the info.

APN: att.mvno
Username:
Password:

Visual Voicemail
APN: acds.voicemail
Username:
Password:

MMS
APN: att.mvno
Username:
Password:
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS Proxy: proxy.mvno.tracfone.com:80
MMS Max Message Size: 1048576
MMS UA Prof URL: http://mmsc.cingular.com

Wouldn't the phone default to Carrier 14.0 (until a SIM card is put in) and give you access to the panel if the device is unlocked?
 
ok so I have hit a wall here. maybe its something simple Im overlooking? everything is working on the phone other than data. even on wifi I am unable to use cydia or safari? is it something that I did wrong in the jailbreak process?

Is it a tethered jailbreak (6.1.3 ??)
Do you need to just boot tethered ?

Once you enter the settings and allow the phone to save them, they will stick. I have had an iPhone 4, iPhone 4S and iPhone 5 all on Straight Talk without any issues. I am back to AT&T now due to they have LTE speeds in my location, which Straight Talk does not have nor are likely to have anytime soon.
 
ok I got safari and cydia working again. downloaded tetherme and changed all the settings but Im still getting the annoying error "Could not activate cellular data network you are not subscribed to a cellular data service" :eek:
 
ok I think I finally got it! That stupid unlockit.co.nz was messing me up. After deleting that and using some new apn settings I now have data! Thanks for the help guys
 
the only thing I dont understand is now I can send pictures and use data no problem... but having issues getting pictures?

I can't remember the exact details, but there's a known bug in media imessages. I know BiteSMS discovered the bug (you can read about it in their forum) and implemented a fix. They offer a free version. You can install that app and see if it resolves your problem. You can still use the stock messages app of you prefer. Not sure why you would want to though because BiteSMS is THE BOMB!
