Polishing the Back of the SS

Has anyone polished the back of their SS? I have some light scratches beside the charging area that I would like to remove. I'm wondering if the words will get buffed out. It looks like the words are engraved, but I'm not sure. Also, as much as I will try to avoid the charging area, what if I rub the cloth there? Does it get scratched? I'll probably use the Cape Cod polishing cloths. Thanks!

Please don't take this wrong, but why polish the back side for any reason? Besides possible ruining the watch, it seems like it would be the equivalent of polishing the back side of a hub cap.

Mine had a ton of scratches all over it after the first couple of weeks, if you look close, and my steel analog watches are the same. Steel looks great a little worn in, as opposed to a material with a finish that chips off.

I say ignore it and get ready for many more scratches. It's part of the deal.
