I don't seem to be able to post in Polls, so here it is in text form.

Where do you think Apple will be in 10 years?

(1) Owned by Sony or Matsushita or Samsung
(2) Owned by IBM
(3) Effectively controlled by Microsoft
(4) Apple becomes a Software company
(5) OS X on Intel/AMD
(6) OS X on both PPC and Intel/AMD
(7) OS X as a premium top layer to Linux
(8) Apple marketshare drops from 3% to 1%
(9) Apple marketshare increases to 15%

I'm being realistic, still on PPC or the next thing to come across and say about 20% market share

Where was Apple in 1993? If you can say that where it is now could have been predicted back then, take a guess... Personally, who knows? All I know for sure is that if they are still in business I will still be buying a Mac whatever it looks like inside or out, and I wont care whether or not I m one of the 90% market share or an eccentric freak with a Minority Report style machine from the dying Apple empire.

The only safe choice is (10) none of the above.

I want to hear from somebody who guessed the iPod before I get too interested in their forecast for ten years out into the future.

By the way, the reason I dredged up this old thread was because I think LVzardoz, in starting this thread, was the first to use the term Macintel in the forums, other than in reference to this John Dvorak article (after he predicted Apple would switch to on Intel by September 2004).

Runner up: Member Julian12.

50 MacRumors points to LVzardoz and a few to Julian12. As second runner up, I get no points.

Funny how all the old replies here were really very pessimistic... it seems that apple got more wind in their sails since then.

And congrats to LVzardoz, though I'm not sure it's such an honor - I hate the term - "mactel"... yyurrg!

Please, please, no more praise, it is so unlike Mac fanatic behavior :)

Now for my next, much more "out there" speculation (certain to conteract any misplaced adulation) ...
