There has been quite a bit of discussion regarding the placement of TouchID on the new iPhone X. Currently, Apple's industry peers seem unable to rectify having fingerprint recognition and a near borderless display, resulting in sometimes awkward rear placement of the fingerprint scanner.

While Apple may be capable of solving this problem with an underglass TouchID, recent rumors and renderings at least indicate a past (if not current) struggle with the same issue.

I'm curious how the consensus of MRF feels about this, as I've seen opinions all over the place.

if apple can get a smaller device in a bigger display then having touch ID on the back is fine as long as we have other ways to unlock via iris scanning.

Touch ID on the front. If it means bezels for a few more years until they can crack it working under the display, that's fine by me.

Samsung are doing the very thing Apple are frequently accused of: form over function.

As I frequently work at a desk, something of this nature (at least now) seems important to me as well. However, current facial recognition and iris scanning (at least as implemented by competitors) is filled with compromises.

Dunno Iris scanning works very well on the S8. Facial recognition i think might not be as secure but i would hope apple's would be done more securely than samsung's version.

I want my touch-id/home button in the usual place even if they have to make a larger bezel area at the bottom of the phone. Seems like we are having to compromise again. If they put it on the back, I will likely go back to an unprotected device with no passcode.

Interesting question but I couldn't poll because my answer doesn't fit in your poll.

I prefer the Touch ID in the front as usual but would like Apple to add an infinity display or to better word it, get rid of the side bezels.Looking at my iPhone now, I can see that the top and bottom could also be slimmed down a bit.

I prefer Touch ID to be on the front. It's too fiddly on the back so they can keep the bottom bezel if they are not able to get the fingerprint scanner under the screen.

I'm fine with using other methods of unlocking such as iris scanning but I like using Touch ID to sign into my banking apps. Unless they replace that with iris scanning then I want Touch ID to remain.

Narrower bezels, especially the sides and top, and keep TouchID on the front. I don't mind the bottom chin, as it makes the phone better to hold.

I'll add that option for you gents.

No bezels please.

I'll gladly revert back to raise to wake or double tap to wake + PIN unlocking.

A smaller form factor affects me 100% of the time. An awkward situation where I need to use Touch ID represents 10% or less of my daily use.

If they get rid of the top and side bezels it wouldn't be so bad just keeping the bottom part for the Touch ID button

Every single one of your vote answer are based on rumors. I've heard rumors about a touch id in the display for 2 years...
That's correct; rumors and speculation. However, I know better than to expect or believe I deserve something based on as much. Do you not?

...and now apparently, they still don't know how their design will be.
You know this to be fact (As opposed to Apple being a very protective and secretive company)?
