I like my computer to look like it's new. The background is the default Tiger background, and everything in my dock is an Apple app, plus the Applications folder and my Documents folder, for easy access. Yay.
Now and then I temporarily change my desktop to something else, but it always ends up being Aqua again.

The bottom. I did try the side one day, but about 15 minutes in it just felt so wrong I had to switch it back immediately. 
It's strange because with most Macs being widescreen, the side location kinda makes sense. Still, it just doesn't work for me.
What about top? It's possible to put it anywhere except the middle of the screen.
There "is" a way to do it via a hack or some sort of software but i do not know where to find it.

Yep, the software is Terminal.app, the command you use is defaults with certain parameters, or edit ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock and change "orientation" and "pinning".
For the record, my dock is on the bottom in the normal place. I have the Applications folder too, and a downloads folder (I don't use my desktop for that - I use that for the picture).

Mmm, I tried that too. Makes perfect sense. Ten minutes later I'd put it back at the bottom.
Top right, hidden, no magnification.
