I've heard that a lot of users have had problems using this with OS X. I'm leaning more towards an Airport Extreme Base station + USB drive. Only about $30 more and compatibility guaranteed.

I second that. Buy the AP Extreme on eBay used, and it's the same price.

The poor man's Time Machine is as free as the rich man's.

Either way - it's not really a problem to do it with your method, but in general, and for easier configuration, it might be better to go the AirPort route.

Works Great

I got my AEBS on eBay for 90$ shipped and it looks BRAND new but used. It came to me made from Nov 2008 so I was a happy camper.

Waiting for my Mac to show up in Feb before I buy a 1TB USB drive for it.
