Poor signal holding the phone normally

I'm aware of the signal gate issue on the 4 so I thought these new phones used dual antennas top and bottom.

If I pick up the 5s and hold it normally resting the bottom in between the pad of my thumb and 4 th finger my signal drops from 3 bars to 1 bar sitting in the same place in my house.

Is this suppose to happen, I thought the top had antennas too.

While that does sound a little drastic and I haven't seen it happen the bottom line is not really what the signal bars show but whether you are dropping calls. The software can be tweaked to show any signal level the engineer wants it to display. The real issued is the whether or not there is sufficient signal strength to make and complete the call.

In all seriousness, the 5/5s shouldn't do that. Make a Genius Bar appointment and let them check it out. You might have a weak antenna.
