Is anyone else bothered by the general lack of writing ability by so many posters? I like this site as it's active and covers quite a bit of ground but so many "txtese" posts is a huge turn-off.

TELL ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Obsession about something so trivial is likely a sign of approaching mental instability.

At least the drugs for your approaching mental breakdown will be top notch.

Yes, it bothers me, but no more than on any other site I frequent.

yeah, i agree it's annoying, but tolerable unless it's completely egregious (and even worse, when the poster doesn't know what's wrong). you could be the spelling/grammar police if you wanted to, otherwise just deal?

It's the internet, everyone didn't/won't get an A+ in English (including me!).

Occasionally a post will be so so bad that it is barely fathomable, but most of the time so long as the post makes sense who cares?

Wirelessly posted (iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5F136 Safari/525.20)

It doesn't bother me too much, but it can get a little annoying if I am unable to understand what a member is saying.
I myself could never type like that. ;)

Yes...I don't buy "it's the internet" as an excuse; if you're going to communicate something, you should make some attempt to do it properly, not that I would expect 100% correctness at all times. Otherwise I just skip over the posts that are excessively bad--not bothering to make a small effort at writing means I don't bother to make the effort to understand you.

While true, no one needs to be formal here. I'm more worried about them getting the point across, rather than whether their grammar is correct.

Personally, I mostly follow AP Style. (Which means I would probably flunk most English courses.)

I don't have anything to add, really, but this thread requires this image.

Agreed. Typos are one thing, or even casual writing. But when posters have no regard for being readable, it really is irksome. And for people to defend it is beyond comprehension.

Sorry OP, I am somewhat ill educated, but I think the title of this thread should read "bad grammar" rather than "lack of grammar".

I must admit that some of the more educated posters on other sites have been very generous with tips to help my spelling, grammar and punctuation.

The spell check in 10.5 is a big help for me too.

Once in a while. People who don't use capitals to start sentences get my goat. The misuse of apostrophes is another annoyance. Otherwise I just ignore the unintelligible and worry about more life-threatening stuff (such as death).

It doesn't bother me too much, but sometimes it makes me wonder if some people actually utilize their browser's spell checker ;) .
