My XR (2 weeks old, 100% bat health) has pretty poor overnight standby time. Like it would literally drop almost 15% while doing absolutely nothing (according to battery usage/screen time, no background activity during nightime). I swear that my SE wouldn't drop more than 2-3% if any, with the same settings as my XR. I would literally not worry charging it because after 7 hrs it would be the same.

The phone was restored from my SE but the I have set it up as new and made no difference. Everything is on (wifi, bt, app refresh etc.). Low power mode doesn't make a difference. My iPad (I know, bigger battery) has the exact same settings as my iPhone and it barely drops like 3-4% a DAY. My friend's XR, who also has all the "battery draining" settings enabled, drains like 3% overnight. Could poor signal make a huge impact? He has almost perfect reception on the same carrier while I'm struggling with 1 or 2 bars of 3G. I haven't found a single test or actual evidence online of poor signal making a huge difference like that and I’m really curious if anyone has this problem with the draining.

I would also like to know what “normal” overnight battery drain is supposed to be. Is it normal to lose 5-7% per night even if I'm connected to Wi-Fi all the time?

Even with Wi-Fi on, your phone still has to manage the cellular connection. Airplane mode would solve this: You won't miss out on anything (aside calls) because of the Wi-Fi connection, without needing to maintain the cellular connection.

Understood, thank you! Is this graph normal for overnight drain from 00 to 06? There's nothing running in the background and the usage stats seem to confirm this.

If your cellular connection is weak, there is nothing to worry about, it seems alright. Just try the Airplane mode tonight and see for yourself :)

If you press on the graph you can filter the apps to what was using it at specific times. I had an issue after updating where it drained a lot overnight. Turned out to be an old, no longer supported app i use for showing my calendar on the widget page so i deleted that and its been fine since. You may be able to narrow it down to a specific app.

If you look closely, there was nothing doing background activity in the screenshot over night.

if the iPhone is on but unplugged overnight, (with Airplane Mode off) it's normal for the battery level indicator to drop 5 to 10% overnight.
If the iPhone is put in Low Power mode before an overnighter, battery drain will be less. If the iPhone is put in Airplane Mode, the battery shouldn't discharge more than 2%. Usually less

It depends on the piece (not the model). I have owned pieces that dropped 1% overnight and those that drop 10% over 8 hrs. It’s a luck of draw.

If you charge to 100% the measurement will be wrong.

Don’t charge. Let it drop over night without putting on the charger prior to that. That’s the way to measure.

I’ve tried airplane mode with wifi on and it seems to drain about the same. But turning off all data and connections dramatically increases battery life (yea, it’s a no brainer but it seems too much of a difference). It’s weird that my old SE seems to last forever in standby with everything turned on.

My graph last night:
