CNET: Apple again pays Jobs $1 salary

Apple Computer chief Steve Jobs once again took home a $1 salary, although his net worth got a boost as the company's share price continued to soar. Jobs has taken a $1 salary for the past several years, although in March 2003, he was awarded 10 million restricted shares of Apple stock that will be fully vested this month. With those holdings, Jobs owns about 1.2 percent of Apple's outstanding shares, according to the company's annual proxy statement, which was filed Monday with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Salaries of other Apple execs for Fiscal 2005, as shown in the article:

Tim Cook, Chief Operating Officer: $602,434 + $600,239 bonus

Jon Rubinstein, iPod unit chief: $552,795 + $551,239 bonus

Ron Johnson, executive for retail: $552,795 + $550,202 bonus
What's with the 0.2% extra bonus Rubinstein got compared with Johnson? Small enough not to make a difference, but big enough to give Rubinstein bragging rights, since their salaries were identical.

See also the Jobs Worth $4.4 Billion thread.

I can brag too: My MacRumors salary last year was almost exactly the same as Steve Jobs' Apple salary!

Gold watch? He's retiring at the end of the month.

Ten million shares at $65.68 - today's close - is quite enough to overcome the $1 salary.

I could get a few Enzos to trash on the PCH for that $656,800,000.

I'd be happy with a $10,000 tax-free gift from 60 people every year.
Or a $599,980 salary with a $20 manual on how to dodge taxes.

Must be nice. I can see myself maybe making 90-110K in 6 years. I am 24 now...

If I made 600k a year, I might just buy an iSight.

The salary is one thing of those execs but I sure would like the option of abonus plan like that as well.

Those 10 million shares fully vested this month should more than make up for his considerably small base salary these last few years! ;)

1 dollar?? who care when you have that many shares of Apple, and more importantly DISNEY

But if he doesn't get any more shares this year, then his "salary" is $1 a year + whatever he makes from the increase in AAPL share price. If his shares decrease, and he doesn't get any more stock, then it's like he's paying to work there.

Of course, he's rich as hell, so I don't feel sorry for that bastard at all.

Moneymoneymoneymoney.....MONEY!!

Man that billions of dollars would buy lots of wine. I'd buy all the cool stuff and be smasehd every night.

I'm surprised more people aren't impressed with those bonuses being essentially equal to their annual salary!

Man, I'd be pumped just to keep my current salary but get a bonus equal to my salary each year!

I wonder if he is helping to contribute to the savings deficit....I imagine that he goes out and blows his entire salary before buying groceries, let along putting it in the bank or an IRA...so irresponsible. I imagine his wife and kids are suffering as a result of that.:( ;-)

Even if the stock completely tanks to $1.00 per share, he still has 10 million shares. That is a butt-load of money any way you look at it.

He was given those shares a few years ago and he becomes fully vested in them this year IIRC.

Damn. That's just an insane amount of net worth he has accumulated.

Supposedly, the $1 is just so that he shows up on the company payroll. He is thus eligible for the company health insurance plan.

Even billionaires need help with health care costs. :)
