So I want to add one of my e-mail accounts to my iPhone, that is currently setup as a pop on my MBP with Yosemite. I could not find a way to change the setup of my account on my Mac to iMap.

I have the same account setup on my e-mail as pop, but it doesnt really work that well since i can not delete from my iPad for some reason.

How would you suggest I should set this account up on my iPhone?

Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

If you want to sync your mail with multiple devices, you definitely want IMAP, not POP. You should be able to set that up with your mail server. For example, if you're using Gmail, log into your Gmail account via your web browser, then go to Settings and the "Forwarding and POP/IMAP" tab. Make sure IMAP is enabled. You should then be able to simply add that account on your iPhone.

My acccount supports iMap, its on a dedicated server. I set it up on my Mac, but it was a new account and not linked to the original e-mail and want to keep them the same. Is there a way to change that setting in Mail?

If that's the case then you'll be better off transferring (copying) your old POP emails over to the corresponding folders in your new IMAP account. Then you can forget about the POP version.

Why didn't I think of that?

The problem is when I set up the accounts on my iPad or iPhone as iMap and try to delete them it says "Unable to Move Message. The message could not be moved to the mailbox Trash."

Any idea why?

I tried the suggested and ran into major problems, let me explain what I did...

I created a new account in mail for the iMap. I pulled over everything to the new iMap mailbox for the account I just created.

All seemed fine.

Then I went in and deleted the old account. Now all of the e-mails I pulled over were deleted. The old mailbox was gone and the new mailbox was empty. This was not the desired effect, lol.

I am now restoring through time machine.

Any idea where I went wrong?

How many emails were being moved?

It doesn't seem right that they're all gone, whatever the case.

After you restore the POP account, create corresponding mail folders that are "on your Mac" and not in the account. COPY the emails to the new folders, but not too many at a time.

Then delete the POP account, add the IMAP account and COPY the emails in the folders "on your Mac" to the corresponding IMAP folders. What will happen is the emails should upload to the IMAP server. This can take a long time depending on how many and how fast a connection you have.

It should work if you skip the local folder step...but it's an extra step for safety.
