Hello all,

Earlier last night, there was a pop sound with a sudden gush of air coming out from my keyboard. My fingers are on the keyboard and when I felt it I freaked out almost instantly. Fortunately nothing happens. I immediately close the browser as I suspect the heat generation would be coming from the flash heavy website. It felt very hot near the exit vents but the palm rest area was fine.

I downloaded the smcfancontrol and went back to the website and sure enough, the temp slowly increases but the fan is still mostly idle. By around 70°C, the fan is still idling at 1300RPM. I shut it down by this temp as I do not want to risk it. And then with this new app, I decided to check it out with Netflix as it normally runs hot. From my observation here then, the fan seems to be working allright. Slowly climbing up in RPM as the temperature rises and temps stays steady around the low 70s range with 4k-ish RPM.

I am still doing work with my Macbook and it still looks ok. It reads 35°C and no fan movement as I am in an aircond environment. I was wondering if there is any real damage done from that pop? My searches I have done usually leads to the logic board. And to make matters worse, my warranty just expired. I choose not to take up the additional 2 year with Applecare because most of the feedbacks I have gotten from friends is that it is very reliable and the worst case scenarion was just to replace a swollen battery.
