Recently (in the last 3 days) I've had pop-ups appearing while using Safari. Now I already have the 'Block Pop-up Windows' checked so what's up?

Are these a new breed of pop-up window that Safari has to be patched against?

Anyone else witnessed this problem?

..I HATE pop-ups.

Between Pithhelmet and Safari, I was really suprised when I set up a PC for my mom and realized there were ads on the internet. I kinda forgot about them.

No, I wasn't browsing any of "those" sites

I don't remember exactly where I was, but the funny thing was the WindowsXP interface the pop-ups had. And they were about malware and that ilk. If I see them again I'll be sure and note what site I was browsing at the time.

It just struck me as odd because I hadn't seen a pop-up in such a long long while.

I think that if I now encountered a pop-up after a year of not having them, I'd be jolted by the shock. Like when someone jumps out at you from around the corner.

You know, it would help if you told us which site gave you the pop-up. However, I am like the others. I see pop-ups when I use IE and when I visit AOL partner sites with Gecko-based browsers. I see no ads with Safari. If I were a betting man, I would bet that you didn't either.

PopUps on VersionTracker

I can confirm this. I just hit a link to VersionTracker.com and got a popup "warning" message. My trusty iBook is slow enough that I actually saw the tiny new browser window pop open and then the VT page hopped back to the front, obscuring it. (note: Running Safari 1.0 v85 on 10.2.6 on this mac, so maybe it's something that's been fixed in a newer version.)

Let's be fair. I am now using my dad's winXP machine, and have been for the last couple hours. I've had zero pop-ups. In SP2, IE has a pop-up blocker, and I guess it works according to my experience.

You're not going crazy

I got one today as well - honestly don't remember what site I was on, but a pop-up for a travel website came up behind the window I had open, and sure enough, I had 'block pop-ups' checked as well.

I'll keep it in mind as I cruise around - maybe I can get another to go. It must be some new version of a somethingorother protocol thingy that scripters can use that goes around the usual popup filters.

With one of the new updates, popup blocking disabled in safari. perhaps you should check it again.

i have noticed a few get past it... like national australia bank works fine for internet banking javascript popup (you request it). but sites like mixedtape when you request the new window it doesn't appear if you have popup blocker on. turn it off and it works fine. if that makes sense?

Netflix always gets past

I get occasional non-requested popups in Safari and Camino. The Camino ones aren't so bad. They pop up behind the main browser window, so I don't even know it's there until I close the main window.

Firefox is the only one that completely blocks them that I'm aware of.
