The app is free at the time, so I downloaded the app to try it.

It does what Fantastical does - calendar app in menubar. It is quite minimal and simplistic, and seemed to be created for the sole purpose of letting the user access calendar from menubar. When you add an event/schedule, it lets you add invitee, notes, location and alert. The interface is rather large compared to Fantastical, and the dates are spread out quite nicely. However.... fonts are too small! The app also shows week number by default (I don't think it's possible to turn it off). The best party trick for this app is that it shows entire calendar year view straight from menubar. (http://a5.mzstatic.com/us/r30/Purpl...671-01a2-f697-5690e7036f45/screen800x500.jpeg). Correct me if I'm wrong, but Fantastical doesn't offer this functionality.

However, it lacks a lot of features and refinement offered by Fantastical.

If you hover the curser on the date, it takes a bit of time until details for event/schedule are shown (on Fantastical it is almost instantaneous). And it seems to work intermittently. Sometimes the app won't even show the details at all even though the curser is on the specific date for several seconds. The interface and animation are not buttery smooth. There is some choppiness. The preference only has options for relaunch at startup, shortcut, week format and account syncs. I've said the app is simplistic, but some might find it quite lacking.

The popCalendar is $7 while Fantastical 2 is $70. Fantastical does offer a lot more useful and complex functionalities, but for simply accessing calendar from menubar popCalendar does the job fine. I already have Fantastical, but I am keeping popCalendar for its year view. And the app is free for now!
