Port backups from old TC to new TC?

I'm considering upgrading to the new Time Capsule because I would get a lot of use out of the guest networking and dual band features (but only because I have someone who will buy my old one from me) but I have one concern.

Does anybody know if there is a way to port my existing Time Machine backups to the new Time Capsule? I would rather not lose that archive of the past year if I don't have to.

Copy them over. The backups are named based on the machine which is being backed up. I've successfully copied and resumed backups from my TC's HDD to an external attached to it, so I don't see why it would be different with different TCs.

That idea would actually work really well for me. I could get a 500GB Time Capsule and every so often archive to an external USB drive. Thanks, skorpien.
