First post! I just got a MacBook Pro, but I've been a mac user for ever. First laptop though. Anyways, I tried searching but not much turned up.

Do people use those plastic/silicone port covers for their laptops? (http://www.radtech.us/Products/Portectorz.aspx). Are they necessary, or just an annoyance? Since the Portectorz are hideously overpriced, are there any other makers out there (besides scotch tape)? Anything on Ebay?

Thanks!

I've never used anything and never had a problem

Never used covers. I just use compressed air and blow all the ports every month.

yeah **** those port covers. I'll take your suggestions and go with a tape + monthly blast of air. Just saved myself 30 bucks.

They seem like a waste of money.

FWIW: My 3rd gen iPod came with some dock connector covers... I lost them.

Oh yes, I had a 3G ipod. I remember the dock cover. I loved that iPod. Somebody stole it when I was at the gym.
